It seems like fungi are scarce in most of the state. We've had good
hunting here this summer. The Taos contingent, Linda and Billy, joined me
in scouting the Gascon area last weekend. We found a wide variety of
fruitings, including enough Ramaria for a large meal and several
varieties of Amanitas and Russulas. At another site we gathered more than
25 lbs of Hypomyces lactaflorum. There were so many we could sit
in one spot and reach around to fill a whole basket. They were semihiding
under the pine needles in big humps. We had to watch where we stepped or
there would be a big crunching sound.
I'm going again today and if it's still good I would like company on
Sunday (Aug 13). I'd like to go out 9:30-10 and you can optimistically
bring your rain gear. Lunch will be mushrooms and salad in my kitchen.
Call if interested.
